She opened a drawer and got out a nightdress, flinging it on

the bed in a filmy, drifting heap. Then she walked through to the

shower, stripped and stood, her arms lifted to her red-gold hair,

slowly revolving under the caressing needles of warm water. She

felt sticky and unclean. She felt that the water washed away all

the dark memories, the misery and the fear. The water soaked her

hair, turning it dark. Her slender body slowly relaxed in the

warmth, her eyes half closed in sensual enjoyment.

When the door to the cubicle opened her eyes flew open and

she stiffened, her hands instinctively taking up a protective

posture, angrily saying,
